Become a PartnerHave you ever wanted to help children learn and succeed? Substitute teaching and/or working as a classified (support) substitute is a wonderful career for those individuals interested in working with Boise School District students. As a substitute, you indicate your interest in the success of the community education team. There are occasions when staff must be absent; however, their work must go on without interruption. Therefore, when they are unable to serve, substitutes must step in and make valuable contributions. Substitutes are a vital part of our total education program. As a substitute, you have the flexibility to work on your schedule and receive training. QualificationsApplication RequirementsSubmitting an application for a substitute position does not guarantee employment. Sub NewsClick here to download the substitute newsletter OrientationsAn applicant must attend a mandatory substitute orientation prior to beginning employment as a substitute. To attend an orientation, an applicant must: Please note that applications will be reviewed in the order in which they were received. Qualified applicants will receive an invitation to attend the substitute orientation. Please know that due to the number of applications we receive, there may be a delay between the application date and the invitation to attend an orientation. At the orientation, attendees will: Applicants should be prepared to spend 1-2 hours to complete the orientation, complete the new-hire paperwork, and be fingerprinted. In addition, applicants are expected to attend the orientation meeting in appropriate business attire. Certified Substitute Teacher TrainingIf a substitute is interested in substituting in certified positions, the substitute must attend a Substitute Teacher Training session. These training sessions are usually scheduled once a month and are three hours in duration. At the training session, attendees will receive training and information regarding classroom management and other techniques to help the substitute be successful in the classroom.
