
To me, young people are very precious and unique and I strongly believe all students can cooperate and behave appropriately in the classroom.
In order to assure your student and all the other students in my classroom the excellent learning climate they deserve, I will explain my classroom management philosophy.
My
classroom management and discipline are really accomplished through
being
proactive rather than reactive. This can be achieved through
classroom
arrangement, by practicing the classroom rules early, and by making
students
accountable for their behavior. The following three steps will
help
you better understand the management system I have in place.
1)
The physical arrangement of the classroom is the first step in
establishing
my expectations for the year. I will arrange the classroom in
such
a way so that I can quickly reach any student for help.
2)
The rules and understandings for the class will be established through
a joint effort between the students and myself. We will set five
rules and consequences during the first week of school. In
conjunction
with setting the rules, the class will practice what is to be
expected.
All rules and consequences will be in accordance with the Boise School
District policy and yet tailored to fit the students.
3)
As the rules are established, so will student accountability. By
giving the students a voice in the rule making process, they will have
a sense of ownership and their behavior will reflect that. In doing so,
the learning environment is enriched and inappropriate student behavior
diminishes.
By
accomplishing these three goals early in the school year a great deal
of
management problems are avoided before they even appear. Through
a proactive discipline style, inappropriate or disruptive behavior can
be considerably lessened.
