Our Mission

Students

The mission/vision statement at Horizon Elementary is that “Every child learns every day”. It is our goal to teach and encourage all our students to become life long learners, productive citizens, and to reach their full potential. Academic and cultural diversity of all students is respected and fostered. The basic values of responsibility , trust, honesty, and team work is consistently modeled and taught. The counseling program is an integral part of the delivery system of our mission and vision statements and goals.

Schedule: Barbara Crawford-Kennedy - Monday through Friday
Mary Baker - Friday, 6th Grade only

Focus areas:

  • Classroom guidance: The Boise School District Counseling and Guidance curriculum is taught in all classes grades K-6. Supplemental classroom units and instruction are designed and taught according to individual classroom teacher needs and as requested.
  • Small groups: The primary focus of small groups at Horizon is academic learning and student success.
  • Mentoring: The Bureau of Reclamation serves as our partners in education. Many students are involved in a mentoring relationship with a BOR lunch buddy with whom they meet during lunch once a month. They enjoy this relationship through grade 6. The purpose of this mentoring program is to build the self-confidence and self-esteem of the children involved in this program.
  • Parent/staff consultation: The school counselors encourage parents to contact them regarding home and family and school issues. Assistance is also always available for the faculty and staff. It is the goal of the counselors to make school a wonderful place for all to learn and work.
