Ideally,
all medication should be given at home. However, there are students
with chronic illnesses and long-term health conditions who need to have
medication in the school setting. When medication must be administered to students at school the goal is to provide safely for students’ health needs while minimizing the liability to school personnel who are providing essential health services. The Liberty School Parent / Student handbook states: Medications may not be given at school without the written consent of a parent or guardian. Forms are available from the school nurse. All medications must come to school in the original container with instructions for administering. (Pills in baggies, pockets, or backpacks are not acceptable.) All medications should be given in the Nurse’s Office. We have a supply of Tylenol, Motrin, and antacids which parents can have a signed authorization of file to give their child. Most prescription medications can be given before school, just after, and in the evening at home. If your child has a chronic condition which requires daily medication, please contact the Nurse’s Office. The
following is a Medication Authorization if you need a form: |
