I
would like to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is
Robin Hausheer and I am excited to be a part of Taft Elementary.
I look forward to working with each of your children throughout
the school year. The purpose of the school counseling program
is to provide every student with life-long skills that will
assist them in an ever-changing world. By partnering with parents
and the community, we can establish and uphold high standards
of learning that will allow all students to achieve success. Throughout
the school year opportunities will exist for all students to
grow academically, socially and personally. I will provide
these opportunities in the following ways:
- Visiting each class twice a month for 30 minutes to teach
guidance curriculum;
- Providing continued support, encouragement and assistance
to all students;
- Implementing educational counseling groups as needed to
assist students in developing skills necessary to be successful;
- Providing programs during and after school to promote
student success;
- Building a strong relationship between the school, parents
and the community
Focus areas:
- Classroom guidance: One of the most important parts of
the school counseling program is teaching guidance curriculum.
Following is a list of topics that will be discussed during
30 minute sessions twice a month to each class. Those topics
include: academic self-concept; skills for learning; understanding
self; communication skills; decision making; personal safety
including interaction with strangers, internet safety and
gun safety; drug, alcohol and tobacco awareness; career awareness;
and employment readiness.
- Small groups: Throughout the year small groups will be
held based on the needs of the students.
- Individual work with students: I feel it is very important
to create a safe environment for students and parents. With
a safe and supportive environment, concerns can be addressed
helping to promote academic, personal and social growth for
students. Please feel free to call me with any concerns,
questions, or comments at 854-6180.
- Parent education: I will occasionally teach classes that
are available to our parents. One such class is Parenting
with Love and Logic.
- Mentoring: Our adult mentoring program consists of 45 to
50 members of our community who are paired with students,
creating great opportunities, both socially and academically.
This program gives students a chance to develop friendships
and academic relationships while encouraging student success.
- Parent/staff consultation: Benefits offered to parents
by the counselor include assisting with parent concerns,
offering community referrals, parent education classes, and
family relationships.
- The A.S.S.E.T. Program: This program, A School-based
Student Employee Team, allows students the opportunity to
have an on-campus job throughout the school year. The idea
behind this program is to give students a sense of responsibility
and purpose while at school. This helps students to become
more connected to the school and creates a sense of pride
in maintaining a health school community.
