Welcome to the Counselor’s
page for Whitney Elementary!
Focus areas:
- Classroom guidance: The elementary counseling program is
designed to be preventive in nature. A large part of what
I do involves classroom teaching. I teach lessons in all
grades, every other week, for the entire year. My lessons
fall into three domains: Conflict Resolution, Personal Safety,
and Careers.
- Small groups: In small groups, we work on things like solving
our own problems, how to get along with others and make friends,
and how to be successful in school. These groups typically
meet for about six weeks.
- Individual work with students: I also see students individually
on occasion. While school counselors do not do long-term
therapy with students, I am always happy to meet with students
to help with issues and concerns they have.
- Mentoring: We have a strong Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring
program at Whitney, and we are always looking for community
partners to come and mentor our students.
- Parent/staff consultation: Parents, I encourage you to
contact me any time you have questions or concerns about
your student. We are partners with the common goal of success
for your child. You are the expert on your child, and can
give valuable insight to our team at school. We need you!
