2011/2012 School Year
We
are so excited for a new year in the library! We have already had
a great deal of fun! The Kindergarteners have had a great time
reading Nonfiction and Fiction books about animals, the 1st and 2nd
graders have been introduced to lots of great authors and stories (and
how to find those books by themselves), our 3rd graders are discovering
that there are wonderful chapter books that they are able to read...a
Whole Chapter Book...all by themselves:) And our 4th, 5th, and
6th graders have shown themselves how well they know how to find all of
the fiction chapter books that they are looking for!
Our Book Fair is
coming! The
students are looking forward to seeing all of the wonderful, new books
that Scholastic will send to us for our fair. The dates for that
book fair are October 31st - November 3rd. We invite you to drop
by any time that week to see these great books for yourselves!
Thank you for your
support for these book fairs! We look forward to seeing all of
you!
We
continue to have the challenge this year of not having funding for new
library books. As you know, there have been many cuts to the
school district budget, and one of those cuts was money for library
books both last year and this year. Last year, I
was able to use funds that we raised through 2 book fairs to add some
books to the library, but it was still a small amount compared to what
we have normally been able to buy.
**** If
you are able, and you want to help with this special challenge, you may
donate money to the Boise Public Schools Education Foundation for the
Whitney Elementary Library. We appreciate your
generosity! www.boiseschoolsfoundation.com
Parents
make sure that your kids read every day! Reading is so
important! Just 15 - 20 minutes a day will make a BIG difference
in your child's ability to read and comprehend! This will help
your child so much in their daily school work! Sit down and read
with your child! Talk about what you are reading! Ask your
kids questions about what you are reading -- Do they understand what is
happening in the book? Thank you for all that you do to help them
continue to learn and grow! We appreciate you!
Children are made readers
on the laps of their parents.
