Mission Statement: Science literacy for all students.
The Boise School District will provide an inquiry-based
program of instruction, giving all students the opportunity
to know and understand scientific concepts, and become
scientifically literate citizens. An understanding
of science makes it possible for individuals to appreciate
the complexity and richness of the natural world and
participate in discussions of scientific issues that
affect society as a whole.
Needless to say, elementary teachers set the foundation
upon which secondary teachers build, by introducing
and reinforcing the principles and concepts that are
essential to the study of the physical and life sciences.
A student’s laboratory experience actually begins
in the elementary setting. Several laboratory kits
are provided for students at each grade level. All
secondary courses have lab components.
Science departments have also been fortunate enough
to obtain technological resources that keep our District
competitive with others across the nation. We have
computers at every lab table. During laboratories,
students collect real time data with sensors and
probeware and then analyze it mathematically with the
system
software. Students are also able to research the
web for up to date resource information. These experiences
will begin to prepare our science students for the
future.
