Behavioral & Emotional Difficulties

Our programs for students with behavioral and emotional difficulties are available upon approval of IEP teams and area supervisors. Student Art

Teachers regularly manage students with difficult behaviors. At times a student may exhibit behaviors requiring intervention strategies usually not utilized in the regular classroom. The teacher can refer these students to the school multi-disciplinary team (MDT) for observation, consultation, evaluation and support.

When personnel have adapted, accommodated and utilized all services available to them, and the student's behavior is still interfering with his/her ability to be educated, a referral to a self-contained program may be appropriate.

Our District has several programs available for students who are in need of these kinds of services.

  • Small group classrooms for students with behavioral and emotional difficulties, located in 17 schools.
  • ASCENT (Alternative Students Courageously Exploring New Territory) located off campus
  • Behavior Interventionists are paraprofessionals who provide behavioral support and intervention in the classroom and school.
